Studio 1:37 Comes to Life (Big Dreams as Pulpit Series)

I have a confession . . . sometimes I second guess myself and fail to follow my dreams.

However, tonight I spent time with some ladies who have stepped out in complete faith and I am so inspired by their passion and courage it almost hurts, in the absolute best way.

My heart is full. I am wide awake with pure joy to have the honor of witnessing the faith-filled adventure of my soul friends. I met Amber and Krystynn while I worked the front desk at a salon, which is another raw and wonderful real life story for another day. They are a perfectly balanced team - hype man and focus guru. Over the past several years Amber and Krystynn have been soaring in their faith, dreaming big dreams, and looking beyond themselves to a greater good. Some of this growth and strength has come about through difficult circumstances. They have experienced loss and grief and uncertainty and hardship. They have also experienced love and laughter and friendship. Through it all, they have held on and not given up. They have chosen to put one foot in front of the other every day. All of these daily steps have led them to today - a day when dreams come true.

Today, Studio 1:37 opened it’s doors for the first time. Amber and Krystynn believe that “Nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37) and they put their faith into action with the launch of their very own salon.

Kudos to mid-life, my gray hairs resurfaced at just the right time and I had the privilege of being the final appointment on opening day. The energy and passion in the space is contagious. They couldn’t stop talking about their desire for the love of God to be reflected in everything that happens in their new business. When I asked them for their candid reflections on their first day, Krystynn exclaimed, “I’m my own boss!” Amber’s response reflects the vision that they both share. She said, “it’s enjoyable to get behind the chair, to serve our guests with 110% integrity, honesty, and love.” This salon is certainly a pulpit - a space where they share the love of God and spread joy and peace and hope. Krystynn sums up their mission in this way: “I think that having this space is a way to give Christians a better name. It’s not about us. It’s about showing people that being a Christian means loving one another. It’s not about judging. It’s about loving each other.”

Stepping out in faith, taking risks, and following your dreams is not an easy ride. Without a doubt, it’s a wild ride. On one hand, Krystynn said that everything fell into place so easily that there was no question that God was leading them to this place at this time. On the other hand, there were still some hoops to jump through that required faith. There was lots of prayer, lots of freaking out, and lots of affirmation, not to mention a business plan, retail license, and financial investment.

Opening this business was not just a step. This was a leap - and it has me pondering big dreams and leaps. I wonder - what is it gonna look like for me to take the leap? What is it going to look like for you to take the leap? My dreams and your dreams are not in vain. Your passion and my passion matter. For big dreams to come true, we may have to ditch the small steps and take one giant leap. When the time comes we may have to be ready in a moment to leap off the ledge into the mysterious unknown where the limits placed on dreams are obliterated.

These two girl bosses are taking control of their lives and their futures and they will not let anything come between them and their big dreams. They are living into their craft in a way that they feel called, in a way that feels true to themselves, so that they can truly live into who they believe God has created them to be. They look back with gratitude to the places and people and opportunities that have brought them to this moment and recognize that nothing is wasted. They are ditching fear and judgment, fighting through uncertainty, not looking back, and not giving up.

Stepping out in faith is absolute perfection.
